What to pay attention to
when buying a used horsetrailer
There’s many websites who give you a big list. But most important, start with checking the trailer floor. Make sure it’s stable and not rotting or rusting. This is usually where problems begin for the chassis of the trailer. Look underneath and make sure there’s no rusted out pillars. In general, the floor should not be slippery. Sometimes, when the floor starts to show wearing, people cover it up with a rubber mat. Very often these have a smooth surface which becomes very slippery when wet. I have seen situations where horses have fallen down because of this.
